Features
- Break-Over Design Ensures Proper Mating Torque is Supplied
- Preset Torque Values Prevent Over-Tightening
- Engraved with Preset Torque Value, Torque Direction, Wrench Size, and Item #
Thorlabs' Torque Wrenches provide preset torque values to secure either coaxial connectors or Polaris lock nuts. When the preset torque value has been achieved, the break-over design will cause the pivoting joint to "break," as shown in the image above. This will prevent further force from being applied to the connector. The wrench's hex head will move back into place once the force is removed.

Each Wrench is Engraved for Easy Identification
Item # | Hex | Torque | Torque Accuracy |
---|---|---|---|
TQW5A | 5/16" | 80 oz-in (0.57 N•m) | ±3.2 oz-in (0.02 N•m) |
TQW8A | 128 oz-in (0.90 N•m) |
- Hex Size: 5/16"
- Two Calibrated Torque Values Available:
- TQW5A: 80 oz-in
- TQW8A: 128 oz-in
- Ideal for Use with Our Premium Microwave Cables and Adapters
These 5/16" torque wrenches have a preset torque value to ensure that the proper amount of torque is supplied when mating two coaxial connectors. The TQW5A is set to provide 80 oz-in of torque, which is ideal for most SMA connectors, while the TQW8A is set to provide 128 oz-in of torque, which is ideal for 3.5 mm, 2.92 mm, 2.4 mm, 1.85 mm, K, and V connectors.
When the preset torque value has been achieved, the break-over design will cause the pivoting joint to "break", as shown in the image above. This will prevent further force from being applied to the connector. The wrench's hex head will move back into place once the force is removed. The torque wrench should be held at the load-point line inscribed near the end of the handle; holding the handle at a different location will affect the amount of torque applied to the connector. The specified torque is guaranteed only when tightening in the direction indicated by the arrow engraved on the handle. Each wrench is also engraved with its preset torque value, torque direction, wrench size, and Item # for easy identification in the field.
The preset torque value for each wrench is guaranteed for one year from the date of purchase. If necessary, wrenches may be returned to Thorlabs for recalibration; please contact Tech Support for details.

TW6 Torque Wrench Used to Secure POLARIS-LN05 Lock Nut on POLARIS-K05T2 Mirror Mount
- Preset Wrenches for Polaris Lock Nuts & Spanner Wrenches (See Table Below for Compatibility):
- TW6: 6 mm Hex, 24 oz-in Torque
- TW13: 13 mm Hex, 32 oz-in Torque
- TW18: 18 mm Hex, 48 oz-in Torque
- Ideal for Applications Requiring Long-Term Locking
These torque wrenches have a preset torque value to secure the lock nuts on Polaris mounts for long-term locking; see the table below for specifications. Each wrench features a break-over design that allows the wrench to pivot at a joint, as shown to the lower right. Engraved guidelines indicate the angle the wrench should not pivot past in order to apply the specified torque; pivoting the handle past these guidelines will over-torque the lock nut. The torque wrench should be held at the load-point line inscribed near the end of the handle when tightening a lock nut; holding the handle at a different location will affect the amount of torque applied to the lock nut. The specified torque is guaranteed only when tightening in the direction indicated by the arrow engraved on the handle. Each wrench is also engraved with its preset torque value, torque direction, wrench size, and Item # for easy identification in the field.
These wrenches are designed to be compatible with cleanroom and vacuum chamber applications. They are chemically cleaned using the Carpenter AAA passivation method to remove sulfur, iron, and contaminants from the surface. After passivation, they are assembled in a clean environment and double vacuum bagged to eliminate contamination when transported into a cleanroom. Every wrench has a bead-blasted finish to minimize reflections when working with setups that include lasers.
Please note that these wrenches are not intended for use in applications where adjusters are frequently tuned, as these applications typically require torque values of 4 to 8 oz-in (0.03 to 0.06 N·m).
