Features
- Integrate Ø1/2", Ø1", or Ø2" Optics into Our SM-Threaded Mounts Without Using a Retaining Ring
- Mount Ø0.7" Components in Our SM1-Threaded Mounts or SM1 Series Lens Tubes
- Mount Ø1.2" Components in Our SM2-Threaded Mounts or SM2 Series Lens Tubes
- Ideal for Mounting Thick Mirrors in Threaded Mounts
These adapters are designed to allow Ø1/2", Ø1", Ø2" optics to be mounted into our threaded mounts without the use of a retaining ring. We also offer adapters for mounting Ø0.7" and Ø1.2" components such as our lens tubes into our threaded mounts. The optic adapters are ideal for pre-mounting a mirror, Glan-Thompson Polarizer or other thick optics for easy mounting in any of our SM-threaded lens tubes or optomechanical components. The SM1-threaded SM1A60 component adapter is compatible with Ø0.7" cylindrical objects, such as our SM05 Lens Tubes. The SM2-threaded SM2A21 component adapter is compatible with Ø1.2" cylindrical objects, such as our SM1 Lens Tubes, BE Series Beam Expanders, and Ø1.2" isolators.

(posted 2022-10-17 15:47:51.14) hello, do you have an adapter with external SM05 threads and a smooth bore with 15 mm? It would be similar to the SM05P05, but instead of 12.8 mm bore diameter, it would have a 15 mm bore diameter. We would like to mount a CFC fiber collimator in a half inch mirror mount. Thanks. jdelia
(posted 2022-10-19 08:36:54.0) Thank you for contacting Thorlabs. Unfortunately, we do not offer a product with external SM05 threads and an internal 15 mm smooth bore. Depending on your application's requirements, we may have a solution for you. I have reached out to you directly regarding potential alternative assemblies. steffen.richter
(posted 2018-01-30 09:14:37.223) Is there an option for tilt alignment of the optics mounted with an SM1? We are using it to mount a retarder plate onto a PRM1 rotation stage. The problem is aligning the surface normal of the retarder exactly parallel with the rotation axis to avoid "wobbling". In the simplest way I was thinking of a pair of wedged washers or alike. Otherwise, even having more than the two setscrews could help already.
Thank you very much! llamb
(posted 2018-03-26 05:50:00.0) Hello, thank you for contacting Thorlabs. While we have kinematic adapters for cylindrical components to use in similar mounts, we do not have such adapters for mounting optics. I will add this product idea to our internal forum for future development and reach out to you directly to discuss this further. ludoangot
(posted 2016-04-08 16:52:47.583) Do you offer an equivalent of your SM2A21 but for SM05 tubes? That would be an adapter with a smooth inner bore the diameter of an SM05 tube and an external SM1 thread. besembeson

(posted 2015-03-16 11:42:41.02) Hi. The drawing shows that the unit accepts 1" optics and the brackets indicate 25mm. what is the actual diameter, 25mm or 25.4mm? I have a circular aperture with an outer diameter of 25.1mm which I want to hold with this unit (sm1p1).
Thanks, Tomer. cdaly
(posted 2015-03-19 02:56:19.0) Response from Chris at Thorlabs: The SMP1 was designed to accommodate 1" (25.4mm) optics. The mount itself can also seat smaller optics with the three point contact created by the second offset bore and the set screws that holds this optic in place. A 25.1mm optic should not be a problem. The only stipulation is the optic will be offset from the center of the SM1 thread slightly. In the case of the 25.1mm optic, this would be about 0.01". bdada

Thank you for participating in our feedback forum. The set screw is 1/8" long but it will not be long enough to hold your lens securely.
I have contacted you to learn more about your set up so I can recommend other solutions. pnstewart
(posted 2012-06-06 14:07:43.0) I was wondering how long the set screws are. I would like to mount a 22.2mm device into an SM1 thread (axis alignment not important), and this looks like it could do the trick. Could you possibly suggest a better alternative? bdada

Thank you for your feedback. We have contacted you to confirm what you need so we can determine if some of our adapters (linked below) could be a solution.

(posted 2012-02-15 12:22:41.0) Is there a part which has an *outer* diameter of 1" and SM1 threads? I would find that very useful for integrating lens tubes with components which are designed to hold 1" optics. |

- Ø1/2" Double Bore and SM05 External Threading
- Mounts >3.5 mm Thick Ø1/2" Optics in SM05-Threaded Components Without a Retaining Ring
- Secure Optic with a Nylon-Tipped 8-32 Setscrew
The SM05P05 is a fixed Ø1/2" optic mount designed to be used with Ø1/2" lens tubes or other SM05-threaded components. The optic is held in place by a nylon-tipped 8-32 setscrew that secures the optic against the two lines of contact created by the double bore design. The back side of the SM05P05 has external SM05 (0.535"-40) threading.
- Ø1" Double Bore and SM1 External Threading
- Mounts >4 mm Thick Ø1" Optics in SM1-Threaded Components Without a Retaining Ring
- SM1P1 (length of 19.1 mm) Secures Optic with Two Nylon-Tipped Setscrews in 13.0 mm Deep Bore
- SM1P2 (length of 10.7 mm) Secures Optic with One Nylon-Tipped Setscrew in 6.0 mm Deep Bore
The SM1P1 and SM1P2 are fixed Ø1" Optics mounts designed to be used with Ø1" lens tubes or other SM1-threaded optomechanics. The optic is held in place by one (Item # SM1P2) or two (Item # SM1P1) nylon-tipped setscrews that secure the optic against the two lines of contact created by the double bore design. The back side of the mounts have external SM1 threading.
