Thorlabs offers uncoated Ø1/2" and Ø1" wedged silicon (Si) windows. These wedged optics eliminate fringe patterns and can be used to help avoid cavity feedback. Windows are useful for protecting a laser output from environmental effects and for beam sampling applications. These windows are available uncoated or with an AR coating for 2 - 5 µm. We also supply planar windows with a variety of substrate materials and coating options.
Silicon is an ideal optical material for applications using wavelengths in the near-IR range and parts of the mid-IR range. Silicon offers high thermal conductivity and low density, making it suitable for laser windows. These windows are fabricated using optical Czochralski silicon (OCz-Si) and therefore exhibit a strong absorption band at 9 µm and low transmission at THz frequencies. As a result, they are not suitable for use in CO2 laser transmission or terahertz applications.
In addition to the silicon wedged windows offered here, Thorlabs also offers wedged windows with other substrate materials (see the selection guide to the right). Wedged Laser Windows with AR coatings centered around common lasing wavelengths and wedged Beam Samplers with broadband AR coatings on only one face are also available. Additionally, wedged windows with custom sizes and thicknesses are available; please contact Tech Support for more information.

If the window is not engraved with an arrow on the edge pointing to the wedged side, you can rest the optic on a flat table on top of graph paper or lined paper. Then look for the reflection of the lines in the surface reflection. Tilt the window so that, on the flat side, the lines in the reflection are parallel to the lines on the paper. As the optic rolls, this will still be true on the flat side. On the angled side, the lines in the reflection will process around the lines on the paper when it rolls. j.travers
